Traditionally, Agnus Castus has been used to address menstrual irregularities. It works through the pituitary gland to increase the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and decrease follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which supports the balance of oestrogen and progesterone in the latter half of the menstrual cycle.

Agnus Castus can be used in times of PMS, including irritability, mood swings, breast tenderness and cyclical headaches. It has been known to improve chances of conception by regulating the hormones.

The herb is known as Vitex Agnus-Castus or Chasteberry, and it has a beneficial effect on hormonally driven acne, whilst also helping with certain symptoms of menopause, such as mood swings or hot flushes.

Dosage

60 drops (3 ml)  in a little water or juice 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal practitioner.

Precautions & Side Effects

Interactions: Agnus Castus can interact with hormonal birth control and antipsychotic medications and hasn't been tested during pregnancy and breastfeeding.  Side Effects can include itching, rashes, headaches, digestive disturbances or heavier menstrual periods.
